There is no doubt about it: when working out, sweaty feet are a nuisance.
According to Ari Cheren's article, “Adidas ClimaCool Invigorates Feet,” they can be more than just an inconvenience; studies show overheating—including that of the feet—quickly leads to fatigue and significantly degrades performance. For this purpose, manufacturing giant Adidas has developed ClimaCool, a technologically-advanced piece of footwear tackling the problem of overheated feet.
About 70,000 of the sweat glands in the body are concentrated on the underside of each foot. When a person exercises, the feet produce quite a bit of perspiration. Adidas representatives claim the ClimaCool shoe represents a true milestone in athletic shoe history in that it actually helps to regulate the foot’s temperature.
The shoes feature an innovative 360-degree ventilation system. Basically, ClimaCool's design makes a breathable shoe, allowing airflow to circulate around the foot. One feature contributing to its breathable quality is an open mesh top. The mesh is a lightweight material which will not suffocate the foot.
The outsole of the shoe contains air openings which actually ventilate from below, all without compromising protection or performance. The inlay of the shoe contains a sock liner promoting airflow.
Adidas makes some ambitious claims concerning its product. For example, representatives attest the Adidas ClimaCool’s technology can substantially improve athletic performance by reducing heat and moisture up to 20 percent. Also, since the shoe helps to regulate perspiration and the moisture to which the foot is exposed, an athlete has less chance to develop foot fungus, blisters or other unpleasant symptoms of prolonged moisture exposure.
Adidas has taken promotional considerations for the shoe seriously, embarking on an international advertising campaign. In a smart—and expensive—marketing move, Adidas enlisted the support of professional athletes like Anna Kournikova and David Beckham to participate in both the print and electronic advertisements for the Adidas ClimaCool shoe.
With the ClimaCool design, Adidas tackles a factor in footwear many other manufacturers traditionally have overlooked. The company has worked hard to perfect a design responsible for not only addressing functional concerns, but aesthetic ones as well; the Adidas ClimaCool can be worn as casual wear and consumers can choose from a variety of colors.
For the serious athlete looking for any product to obtain even the slightest edge over the competition, a shoe claiming to increase performance by minimizing overheating may be just the thing.
